Puppet Show: Before the Getai

The next night after the banquet dinner/bidding event was this Teochew puppet show. It might seem unclear in the photos as the puppet itself is, erm, small. But rest assured I've uploaded a video of the puppet show I've shot. When I asked my father what were they singing about, he promptly replied: "Teochew lar!". And when I asked again what exactly were they singing, he replied, very promptly again: "For the dead people lar!" Haiz, fathers. They are always so vague when it comes to answers...

I saw the puppet show going on when I reached home from work, so I began making my way up to the front for photos. And there were quite a couple of old folks sitting around, enjoy the puppet show.

The momemnt I inched my way up front, all the old folks started to look at me and whispering to each other. Suddenly, I feel like a foreigner...

This photo was taken right in front of the stage. No crowd, no murmuring. Best shot so far!
