Octagon theory on the Singapore $1 coin...

I was surfing through OMY.sg and happened to saw this True Singapore Ghost Stories thread. It seems quite interesting in the fact that an auspicious and evil-warding symbol can be found on the Singapore $1 coin. Here's a screenshot to the forum thread:
