Nokia N78

As far as presentation goes, the N78 is 101.8g of gorgeousness. Like its cousin, the N82, this Nokia number has a 320 x 240 pixel screen with 16 million display colors. This gives you a screen that is very bright and has vibrant colors. A notable improvement is the new third-edition Symbian operating system, which affords this phone a better navigation experience than its older siblings. It also sports a 3.2-megapixel autofocus camera armed with Carl Zeiss' Tessar lens. One notable feature is the FM signal transmission. The phone streams songs, currently playing into FM signals, which can be picked up by the home or car stereo hi-fi system. The audio experience is a blast with great sound reproduction, thanks to its ability to change the audio equaliser of different genres of music on its own - definitely a plus for those who plug in their music players in the car. Equipped with two very loud external loudspeakers, these will come in handy at parties, though the sound breaks up when the volume is too loud. If you happen to be on the train or bus, use the phone's 3.5mm stereo plug with your headphones or earphones to enjoy your music in private. For those who like to upload photos and videos or websites, the N78 makes this job easy on Flickr, vox or Nokia's ovi. All you need to do is set up an account in the N78 via Wi-Fi or 3.5G connection and send the pictures to flickr via the options menu. The images captured can also be "geo-tagged" with the GPS system onboard so that you will know the location of the shot you have just made. Still there are some kinks to be ironed out. Its glossy finish smudges too easily with fingerprints and the surface feels sticky at the end of the day. As an answer to the iPod's Click Wheel, there's Nokia Navi Wheel. But this is anything but useful, making navigation through the menu a harrowing experience. It is so annoying that I had the feature turned off throughout my usage. The other complaint is the use of three thin strips of plastic as the number keypad. Other than keypad number 5 that has a groove to indicate where the button is, the rest of the number keys are grooveless. Fast SMS typing is a pain as I find myself pressing the wrong keys all too often. To top it off, the phone hangs on me several times when two or more applications, such as the music player and FM transmission, are running concurrently.
