Twilight on Entertainment Weekly

To be truthfully honest, I haven't bought a single copy of Stepahnie Meyer's vampire novels, yet. Actually, it's not that I'm not into vmapire novels or such as I was previously, okay maye a few years back, was a big fan of Anne Rice's vampire novels where the male vampires gave off homoerotic vibes. But when news came forth that Anne Rice would no longer be writing anymore vampire novels, and to fully focus on writing more novels that revolve around Christ, I am positively sure many vampire fans out there will be mourning for the "death" of the Vampire Chronicles novel series. My favorite part of the Vampire Chronicles novels would definitely be the story on the Mayfair family of witches, and a few of them who turned over to the dark side (became vampire witches).

Anyway, right after Anne Rice's announcement of discontinuing of the Vampire Chronicles novel series, my world became a little less interesting, without any form of blood-sucking adventures from the tomes of Anne Rice. But I was quite surprised that many teenage girls in Singapore were enthusiastically buying Stephanie Meyer's novels and they don't care about the fact that we were all sold out. (They kept coming back and asking anyway..). So, I decided to dig around and see what I could find out about Stephanie Meyer's novels and why are they so many teenagers (lately, many women have been buying her books too) fascinated with this series of books and what are Stephanie Meyer's novels exactly about. Yes, it didn't take long too.

And according to this Wikipedia article I found, it seems that:

Isabella "Bella" Swan, chooses to move from sunny Phoenix, Arizona to rainy Forks, Washington to live with her father, Charlie. She chooses to do this so that her mother, Renée, can travel with her new husband, Phil Dwyer, who is a minor league baseball player. Even though Bella never had many friends in Phoenix, she attracts much attention at her new school in Forks, and is quickly befriended by several students. Much to her dismay, several boys in the school compete for shy Bella's attention.

When Bella sits next to Edward Cullen in biology class on her first day of school, Edward seems utterly repulsed, even attempting to change his schedule to avoid her, which leaves Bella completely puzzled as to his attitude.

After tricking a family friend, Jacob Black of the Quileute tribe, into telling her the local tribal legends, Bella concludes that Edward and his family are vampires. Although she was inexplicably attracted to him even when she thought Edward drank human blood, she is much relieved to learn that the Cullens choose to abstain from drinking human blood, and drink animal blood instead. Over time, Edward and Bella fall in love. Their foremost problem is that to Edward, Bella's scent is a hundred times more potent than any other human's, making Edward struggle to resist his desire to kill her. However, despite this they manage to stay together safely for a time.

The seemingly perfect state of their relationship is thrown into chaos when another vampire coven sweeps into Forks and James, a tracker vampire, decides that he wants to hunt Bella for sport. The Cullens plan to distract the tracker by splitting up Bella and Edward, and Bella is sent to her empty home in Phoenix. Bella then gets a phone call from James in which he says that he has her mother, and Bella is forced to give herself up to James at her old dance studio, where he attacks her. Edward, along with the rest of the Cullen family, rescue Bella before James can kill her. Once returning to Forks, she goes to the prom with Edward, where she expresses her desire to become a vampire, which Edward refuses to let happen.

Hmm, seems like a good vampire novel and movie after all. Maybe I'll go watch the movie and decide if I want to buy her novels then. But I am definitely sure I'll be keeping a lookout for Twilight in the cinemas soon.
