A Home Made Insect Spray
The flowers of the pyrethrum, a small species of chrysanthemum, contain a natural insecticide that is non-toxic to mammals. A pyrethrum spray will kill many insect pests and can also be used to kill pests on the skin.1. Pick the pyrethrum flowers early in the morning, when they have just opened.
2. Place the flowers in a dark, well ventilated place until they are dry, then cover them with enough kerosene, mineral oil or alcohol (brandy works well) to saturate them. Leave overnight.
3. Strain the liquid and add six parts of water to one part of the pyrethrum liquid. Pour the mixture into a spray gun.
4. Use the spray immediately, because it begins to deteriorate on exposure to sunlight.
Ban Bedbugs
If you think you have bedbugs, don't panic! They are about 50mm long and smell nasty when squashed. Destroy them by superheating the house in summer , by using pyrethrum powder, or by painting turpentine or kerosene into the cracks in the bed frame.
