The War and the Rice Cooker

"Nothing out of the blue would happen today", or so I thought to myself once again. But this customer proved me totally wrong, with a rice cooker to boot. You see, this guy came in and bought a French phrasebook totalling SGD12.75 and paid for it in cash. Moments later, he came back and this is the exchange we had:

Man: I want to refund this book, I don't have anymore money with me..
Pu Niao: Erh, okay. But do you still have your receipt with you?
Man: Yeah... yeah.

So, I canceled the transaction and refund him with cash and among the dollar bills given back is an old SGD10 dollar note. And upon receiving that note, he promptly said:

Man: Can I change this note? I don't want this note!!
Pu Niao: Don't worry, you can still use this dollar bill in Singapore.
Man: [mumbling to himself] still can use... still can use...

Meanwhile, I carried on serving other customers in the queue until he suddenly, sort of, snapped weirdly.

Man: You sure I can still use this note?
Pu Niao: Yup, although this is an old note, it's still usable in Singapore.
Man: You know the war between Indonesia and Singapore?
Pu Niao: Huh!?
Man: Indonesia having a war with Singapore?
Pu Niao: Erh, yeah..?
Man: I hope I can still use my rice cooker!
Pu Niao: Erm... good for you...then?

And the next customer who came to my counter to pay (a Caucasian lady) was smiling, or rather grinning, from ear to ear... Like, what the hell??
