There is no doubt that your baby deserves the most comfortable and safest car seats, but how do you know which is the best one to choose from ? The important features you should look for in a baby car seat should change from time to time as your baby grows. Typically, you should start with a rear-facing seat for a baby, and then slowly progress to a forward-facing child seat for toddlers, and then to a booster seat for children that are typically aged 4 to 6 years old.
When purchasing a baby car seat, always choose a rear-facing seat with sturdy harnesses. A three-point harness strap adequately secure the baby's shoulders and crotch. You may have to pay a few extra dollars for added features such as detachable bases that can be secured to your car, or adjustable bases, but these add-ons are definitely worth every penny spent. And do you know that some models even have convertible seats, which are great if you have a big or a fast-growing baby?
And have you heard of Britax car seats yet? Some of the innovative safety designs the Britax company has built into their car seats are side impact protection and anti-rebound bars. These important safety improvements help prevent the car seat from harsh rebounding during an impact and the side impact protection helps to prevent unnecessary injury from side impacts just as you might imagine.
