One of the first few Malay words I got to learned in school was "Bodoh dan malas" which simply but rather rudely meant "Stupid and lazy" and it was uttered by a Chinese teacher. Why? She claimed that we were lazy and stupid to study and that earned her tremendous hatred from my class. And the best part? We were only 8 or 9 nine years old then. Then subsequently, my repertoire of Malay words increased to "Beeseng dan susah" which simply meant "Noisy and difficult", uttered by my cheeky Malay part-timer (a girl) to another Malay part-timer (a guy) for being a noise pollution maker while we were chatting away. And next came... "Ayam Penyet", ayam meaning "chicken" and penyet meaning "whacked". So basically, I had Ayam Penyet (whacked chicken) for lunch simply because the stall's BBQ Spicy Chicken meal was sold out. (*_*)
