Lights, Decor, Style!!

All throughout the years, lamps have always add light and style to any rooms in your humble abode. Even a dark corner that isn't regularly used can really benefit a lot from a well chosen lamp. And do you know that lamps not only provide light and brightness, they look really great as a furniture item too!!

Back in the olden days, a lamp was considered a vessel for holding oil that is burned through a wick for illuminating purposes and now, this term has been extended to other lighting devices such as torchieres. The float-wick lamp, for example, in which the wick is supported above the oil, was of Egyptian origin. But it survived in the West mostly as a sanctuary lamp.

Nowadays, it's not considered necessary to use an actual flame, whether in our lamps or homes as we have more sophisticated methods such as desk lamps and table lamps, in which more light is available to our work surface!!

Sloppy Attire from teenagers

LousyFashion01
When this person walked past me on the bus, I though it was an ah pek (old man) who was going towards Orchard. But when I looked up, it was a teenager with this transparent canvas shoe from Converse. The best part? He was going to Orchard Road, the place to be seen and I was somewhat aghast!!

LousyFashion02
I mean, back during my school days, people would emphasize on attire when stepping out of the house. Nowadays, teenagers are just too lazy to dress up a little. And I don't mean wearing a proper shirt with ties, long smart-looking pants and covered shoes. At least wear a suitable length bottom, not just your "I just got out of bed" attire/look. Seriously, give yourself a little respect by dressing up a little. And to think that teenagers have more spending power than I used to have. Sigh... Guess I'll also dress something like this when hitting Orchard Road for window-shopping, huh?

Although I might not look like a movie star, but at least I try to put it a little effort in my clothes when I'm going out. How you wear clothes, dress yourself and carry yourself can say so much about you..

Long John Stingy?

LongJohnSilver
Back during my school days, Long John Silver was the staple fast food for students in Singapore. Nowadays, they leave much to be desired. The menu picture looks inpressive, but when the order comes, I feel somewhat cheated and bewildered as it didn't look like anything I had just seen on the menu..

Baby Blue Whale...

When I saw the ads for the Baby Blue Whale by National Geographic store, I was kind of half expecting to see a live baby whale on display at VivoCity. Although I was half thinking how the heck they're going to transport such a big whale to Singapore. And apparently, I was wrong. You see, it was only a model of the original baby blue whale.

One more reason to prove that this is not a real whale: For your own safety, please do not stand or sit on the platform although the first half of the sign says Be gentle with the baby blue whale...

New Nail Art

PinkNailArt
First I painted my nails a shade of baby pink, when it's semi-dry, I sitck on some 3D nail stickers. But this time, the result wasn't what I intended for as I was a little hasty in doing things. Should have let the nails dry first before attaching the 3D sticker, now when I look at my nails close-up, I can see the tiny faults that was made hastily by me...

A Little Spring Cleaning

I bet nobody knows that I sleep inside a semi-messy bedroom all the time. What's more, my bedroom is chocked full of manga and books, walking around would have made me look as if I was doing an Egyptian dance...

BedRoom02
Those white plastic containers you see towards the left side of the picture? They contain more mangas as well, in fact, those are completed manga series. Whatever's left on the shelves are incomplete series.

BedRoom03
More mangas in this picture, and the shelf to the extreme right of the photo, right in the corner contains books about paranormal, occultism, metaphysics and more!!

BedRoom01
Somewhere inside these 2 boxes contains Hello Kitty plushies (from McDonald's). I'll take pictures and post them up here next time as I need to do a little spring cleaning. Hence today's post is 2 hours late than normal. My apologies!!

Finally cave in to the shopaholic with me

Finally, I gave in to the temptation and ordered a zipper jacket from MaruiOne and do note that I've ordered the last piece of the black and pink pattern and all they have left in stock is another same exact design but in black and white instead. Basically, MaruiOne offers a flat shipping charge rate depending on which country you'll be sending your order to. I'll post photo(s) when I received my jacket in the mail~ ~ ~

Let's suspend all those User Questions about 'what's your favorite genre', 'who's your favorite singer', 'do you like the xyz group' 'can you live without music' ... instead, please get into the conversation, understand it, feel it, think about it, and ask a question that applies to your life, your network. Here are some examples of what I consider a really good User Questions from our most recent SpitzTunes: "Do you think powerful concert mania equates to great singers?" "Do you enjoy outdoor summer concerts or do you find them packed and crazy?" "How much would you pay for a ticket to see Michael Jackson in concert?" "When does mania go over the top?"

Gackt @ 紅白歌合戦 2007

Gackt - RETURNER ~Yami no Shuuen~ (Kouhaku 2007) -

Gackt Dang! I sure wish I was a Japanese sometimes, because of all the crazy concerts and 紅白歌合戦 (Kōhaku Uta Gassen) especially. The last time I saw this program on TV, it was telecast after New Year but nonetheless interesting to watch. Until my dumbass father insisted I switched it off! At the beginning of the video, I had thought that it was a special video until somewhere near the middle of the video did I realise that it was a live performance. It's really impressive due to the fact that I see a couple of samurais (Gackt's band actually!) playing music instruments amid a sea of warriors. And by far, this video of Gackt performing on 紅白歌合戦 is by far, the best live performance I have ever seen, whether on television or on the Internet!!

Teru teru bozu

Teru teru bōzu (てるてる坊主) is a little traditional hand-made doll made of white paper or cloth that Japanese farmers began hanging outside of their window by a string. This amulet is supposed to have magical powers to bring good weather and to stop or prevent a rainy day. "Teru" is a Japanese verb which describes sunshine, and a "bōzu" is a Buddhist monk (compare the word bonze), or in modern slang, "bald-headed."

Teru teru bōzu became popular during the Edo period among urban dwellers, whose children would make them the day before the good weather was desired and chant "Fine-weather priest, please let the weather be good tomorrow."

Today, children make teru-teru-bōzu out of tissue paper or cotton and string and hang them from a window to wish for sunny weather, often before a school picnic day. Hanging it upside down - with its head pointing downside - acts like a prayer for rain. They are still a very common sight in Japan.

There is a famous warabe uta, or Japanese nursery rhyme, associated with teru teru bozu:

Translation:
Teru-teru-bozu, teru bozu
Do make tomorrow a sunny day
Like the sky in a dream sometime
If it's sunny I'll give you a golden bell

Teru-teru-bozu, teru bozu
Do make tomorrow a sunny day
If you make my wish come true
We'll drink lots of sweet rice wine

Teru-teru-bozu, teru bozu
Do make tomorrow a sunny day
But if it's cloudy and you are crying (i.e. it's raining)
Then I shall snip your head off

The song was written by Kyoson Asahara and was composed by Shinpei Nakayama. Like many nursery rhymes, this song is rumored to have a darker history than it first appears. It allegedly originated from a story of a monk who promised farmers to stop rain and bring clear weather during a prolonged period of rain which was ruining crops. When the monk failed to bring sunshine, he was executed. Many Japanese folk historians, however, believe this story and others regarding the origins of teru teru bozu may have originated from long after the tradition had become widespread, most likely in an attempt to refine the image of the doll. It is more likely that the "bōzu" in the name refers not to an actual Buddhist monk, but to the round, bald monk-like head of the doll, and "teru teru" jokingly referring to the effect of bright sunlight reflecting off a bald head.

And you know what? I can't comprehend the fact that there is a certain Singaporean who doesn't know what Teru Teru Bozu is, despite the fact that she's been blogging herself to fame? Tsk tsk...
